Just over a month from race day, if you've not tapped a very important training source, you still have time: your CORE. This isn't simply the abdominals; the '6-pack' so widely publicized. It's literally your pedestal, the entire rim around the waist, lower back and hips. From here, where much of your strength is generated strengthening and making flexible this area, not only raises your metabolism, but provides powerful resistance to injury, keeping you out there walking or running. As well, being nimble, not just strong, taps a very important element of training for longer distances: the muscles don't tighten as quickly, and that's pivotal to reaching "down deep" in latter stages of an effort.
