About the Kids Marathon Program Guide
Welcome to the Oklahoma City Memorial Kids’ Marathon program
guide. This guide is intended to help you, your school’s point of
contact (POC), by giving you some help in organizing this event
school-wide. If your school has a large number of participants, it is

The guide consists of the following parts:
1. To Do Calendars: Each
calendar tells you what you need to do to prepare for the marathon each
month leading up to the run. Each calendar includes links to ready-made
handouts and record keeping tools. These can and should be adapted to
meet your school's needs. (Please note - make sure you change the names and dates on any attachments you download to the correct race date before using them.)
2. Research Rationale: This paper cites
research that suggests evidence for incorporating this event and the
curriculum option into your school.
3. Curriculum Suggestions: Includes
two curriculum sets (Grades 1-2 & Grades 3-5) correlated to the
PASS objectives, intended for use as a 1 week, 2 hour per day unit. The
example unit emphasizes critical literacy, inquiry, empathy,
understanding, and tolerance. Lesson extensions are included.
