Project Safe Start – The Safe Starting System!! Kids Finisher Corral – Child Connect System
On May 1, 2011 we are going to make it easy for you and your kids to have a great and safe experience at the Kids Marathon!
When you get to the start/finish area – we will have signs that will be in areas we call “zones.” Those zones will be for schools to gather by the first letter of the name their school starts with.
When it is time to start the race – we will actually do a “progressive wave start” - in other words – each school zone will be released right after the other zone, but this year we will do it in reverse alphabetical order (Z-A). This will allow schools who have never been at the front of the race to experience it for the first time! We will alternate this start each year. We do a “progressive wave start” in order so that school groups can run together safely! We will announce which zone to be released and they will continue until all 8 zones have been released.
Clearly marked signs will be posted for the “Wave Zones” at the start and finish line. These signs will be at the start and in the Kid’s Finish Corral so that schools and families can find each other easily after the run!
The order you will assemble at the start line is:
1. If you are not part of a school group – you will assemble in front at the “Fun Zone”
2. If you are in schools that begin with the letters U, V, W, X, Y or Z – you will be in the “second wave zone behind the first group
3. If you are in schools that begin with the letters Q, R, S or T – you will be in the “third wave zone” behind the second group
4. If you are in schools that begin with the letters M,N, O or P – you will be in the “fourth wave zone” behind the third group
5. If you are in schools that begin with the letters I, J,K or L – you will be in the “fifth wave zone” behind the fourth group
6. If you are in schools that begin with the letters E,F G or H – you will be in the “sixth wave zone” behind the fifth group
If you are in schools that begin with the letters A,B,C or D – you will be in the “seventh wave zone” behind the sixth groupHave FUN and we can’t wait to see you all Sunday morning May 1, 2011 for Your Run to Remember!!
Kids Finisher Corral – Child Connect System
The Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon Kids Marathon is dedicated to a safe and enjoyable event for the kids, parents and teachers. To ensure better safety in connecting everyone after the race, the 2011 Kids’ Finisher Corral Child Connect System are as follows:
- Parents and Teachers are allowed into the Kid’s Corral after the run – brightly colored volunteers and a very visible OKC Police presence will be in place the entire time.
- Each kid is issued a bib to wear on race day – each bib has a “tear tag” at the bottom with the same number. Parents/Teachers will be required to wear or produce the matching tag for the kid to leave the Kid’s Corral area.
- Teachers: please collect the tear tags and keep them with your student roster. If you are responsible for your class, we will have special exit lanes for you and your class to exit together. You will be asked to produce the roster and number of tags – children will be counted and accounted for and then exited under your supervision.
- Parents: You will have several lanes to exit with your child. Make sure you have your tag out and make sure your kids’ bib is still on them – and you can exit to enjoy the activities outside of the Kid’s Corral.
- If you do not have your matching tag or claim that it is lost, you will be subject to closer examination by trained volunteer(s) or the OKC Police before you are allowed to exit.
Thank you for your compliance with this system. We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable day! Many thanks to all who make this day truly special for the children as they achieve the finish of 26.2 miles.
See you at 8:15am on Sunday, May 1, 2011. Happy running!
