About the Memorial Marathon

The Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon is unlike any other marathon. It combines the intensely personal challenges of running a marathon with the emotion of a shared national tragedy. The OKC Marathon is not about runners, it is about life.

The Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon is a Boston qualifying USATF sanctioned event on a certified (OK-08019-DG) 26.2 mile single loop course.

ChampionChip Timing ensures everyone receives an accurate time (awards and place are based on gun time).

Traffic control for 6.5 hours. Later finishers will be supported but we cannot guarantee that you will receive an official time. If you anticipate taking longer than 6 hours to complete the marathon course, please utilize the early start.

Race Start: Sunday, April 26, 2009, 6:30 AM CST

Start Line: The start line is located on Robinson Avenue between NW 6th Street and NW 5th Street (at the east entrance to the Oklahoma City National Memorial).

Finish Line: The finsh line is located on Broadway between NW 6th Street and NW 5th Street (one block east of the Oklahoma City National Memorial).

Pace Groups: We will have pace groups again this year. Brooks is sponsoring the pace groups and they are being managed by Tim Dreiling of Fleet Feet in Tulsa. Pacers will be available for: 3:20, 3:30, 3:40, 3:50, 4:00, 4:15, 4:30, 4:45 and 5:00 pace. Being part of a pace group is free and you can sign up at the expo.

Walkers are welcome in the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon!

Early start for those marathoners (full marathon only!) expecting to finish over 6 hours, if you start early and run under 5:00 (reach the finish line before 10:00 am) you will be disqualified. To start early and receive an official time you must be at the starting line no later than 4:15am for a 4:30am start. There is no aid on course until 6:30 am. The course is well marked, but you are responsible for knowing the course and providing for your own fluid needs until the race officially starts at 6:30.

Goodies: All marathon participants receive a goody bag, t-shirt, poster, and heartland hospitality both on and off the course (food, beverage and availability of medical care and massage to aid your recovery). Marathon finishers also receive a finisher’s shirt and a custom marathon finisher’s medal.

Age Limit: Entrants must be 16 years of age or older on race day, April 27, 2008, to register for the Memorial Marathon.
